GW3

1. Find two journal articles referencing conic sections.
   E-mail the reference to me. The first group to reference a work gets credit.
2. Find a reference to conic sections on the world wide web other than in a course syllabus
   Follow the same rules as above.
3. Choose one of the following 3 projects and prepare a class presentation.
   • Why are conic sections called conic sections?
     Give mathematical as well as intuitive reasons.
   • What are the reflective properties of each of the conic sections?
     Give examples and mathematical justifications.
   • Construct a large conic section of each type.
     Give mathematical details of the construction.
     Large = wall size--the bigger the better.

Presentations should

• Address the question
• Involve every member of the group
• Contain some interesting mathematics
• Have a handout. (If you need help making handouts, see me.)
